Draining geosynthetics and geocomposites

I geosynthetics for drainage, called Draining geocomposites They are one of the flagship products of Sineco International, designed to meet every specific need of drainage.

These products boast distinct characteristics based on their structure and the functions they must perform.

In particular, i geosynthetics for drainage they are composed of 2 different elements:

  • Homogeneous: printed with a particular profile that promotes drainage capacity. Especially useful in those cases where the product must be positioned in direct contact with flat surfaces (such as retaining walls and foundations).
  • compositi: made by coupling one or more geotextile filters, with an internal core with a high void ratio. In this case we are talking about geocomposites for drainage (like ours SINDRAIN). Draining geocomposites combine the Drainage function with other functions, such as the filtration , separation, thanks to their structure composed of multiple materials. This makes them versatile and effective solutions in many engineering and environmental situations.

How drainage geocomposites are made

In production, the geocomposites for drainage are paired with one layer of geonet, geomat or other printed element (with a draining function). This layer is in turn enclosed between two layers of geotextile for drainage with filtering action, to prevent soil particles from clogging the core, which is essential for conveying and disposing of the captured water.

To meet particular needs, some drainage geocomposites combine a single drainage geotextile or a breathable membrane and/or waterproofing.

As regards the overall thickness of draining mats, this value can vary between 5 and 30 mm. It must be said, however, that - for the correct transmission of fluids - it is of fundamental importance study of the behaviour of these products under load over time.

In fact, geosynthetics for drainage are sensitive to overhead loads which can reduce their thickness. In particular, their behavior is influenced by mechanical causes (in the short term) and by viscous phenomena (in the medium-long term).

The main functions of drainage geocomposites

The most important functions of our drainage geocomposites are:
  • Drainage: to collect and expel rainwater, groundwater or other water sources, in a safe and effective manner;
  • Filtration: to ensure the correct passage of water into the soil, without the loss of particles or soil;
  • Separation: to perfectly isolate the layers of soil, preventing them from mixing together.

Fields of application

Drainage geocomposites are engineering materials used in a wide range of applications due to their ability to provide drainage e humidity control. Here are some of the main fields of application:

Roads and Highways: positioned under the road surface to prevent the accumulation of water that could damage the road structure.

Railways: used to improve the stability of railway ground, ensuring effective drainage and preventing water accumulation.

Bridges and viaducts: applied to manage rainwater and prevent erosion and damage to supporting structures.

Environmental Engineering Works

Landfills: used to manage leachate, preventing contamination of groundwater and ensuring the stability of the landfill cover.

Erosion Control Systems: installed on slopes and embankments to control erosion and improve soil stability.

Soil remediation projects: used to remove excess water and control the migration of contaminants.

Building foundations: placed around foundations to prevent water accumulation and improve structural stability.

Green roofs: used to drain excess water from green roofs, preventing structural damage and improving stormwater management.

Retaining walls: applied behind retaining walls to reduce water pressure and prevent deterioration of the wall.

Hydraulic Works and Irrigation

Canals and basins: used to control the flow of water and prevent erosion of banks.

Irrigation systems: used to improve water distribution and prevent excessive accumulation in specific areas.

Gardens and green areas: used to improve soil drainage and prevent waterlogging problems that can damage plants.
