Since the 80s, when designing landfills, it is necessary to comply with specific regulations – updated with the Legislative Decree no. 36 of 13 January 2003 – created to offer better stability to these structures.
The legislative decree provides for measures, procedures and guidelines capable of prevent and reduce the negative impacts of waste on the environment.
Geosynthetics for landfills
The landfill legislation provides that the competent territorial bodies can approve alternative design solutions, characterized by thicknesses lower than those established, provided that they guarantee equivalent performance to those resulting from the adoption of the expected thicknesses.
This is why an increasing number of local administrations, since the approval of the legislative decree, have adopted stratigraphies that provide for the use of geosynthetics for landfills.
